OfficeRunner II Setup Guide for Desk Phones and Computers

This guide walks you through the basic setup for using your OfficeRunner II with a desk phone, a computer, or both. Complete the power and charging steps first, then follow the section for the device you want to use.

Before you begin

  1. Connect the included power adapter to the DC port on the back of the base, then plug it into a working outlet.
  2. Place the headset securely in the charging cradle.
  3. Allow the headset to charge before its first full day of use. The battery lights on the base show the approximate charge level.

Set up with a desk phone

First, look at the back or underside of your desk phone. If it has a separate port labeled Headset or marked with a headset icon, use the dedicated headset-port instructions. If it does not, use the standard handset-port instructions.

Option 1: Phone with a dedicated headset port

  1. Leave the desk phone handset and its curly cord connected normally.
  2. Connect the included telephone cord from the Phone port on the OfficeRunner II base to the dedicated Headset port on the desk phone.
  3. On the front of the OfficeRunner II base, select the Telephone icon.
  4. Press the headset button on the desk phone, turn on the OfficeRunner II, and make a test call.

If you do not hear a dial tone, move the base's A-B-C compatibility switch one position at a time and test after each change. Some phones require a compatible electronic hookswitch cable or a phone setting before the dedicated headset port will work. Call us with your phone's make and model if you are unsure.

Option 2: Standard handset-port setup

  1. Find the curly cord that connects the handset to the desk phone.
  2. Unplug that curly cord from the desk phone, leaving its other end connected to the handset.
  3. Plug the loose end of the curly handset cord into the Handset port on the OfficeRunner II base.
  4. Connect the included telephone cord from the base's Phone port to the now-empty handset port on the desk phone.
  5. On the front of the base, select the Telephone icon.
  6. Lift the desk phone handset, turn on the OfficeRunner II, and make a test call.

If you do not hear a dial tone, move the base's A-B-C compatibility switch one position at a time and test after each change. Position A works for many phones. Adjust the microphone volume only after you have a clear connection; a middle setting is a good starting point.

Optional remote answering

A compatible electronic hookswitch cable or handset lifter lets you answer and end desk-phone calls away from your desk. Connect the compatible accessory to the ACC port and follow the instructions included with that accessory. Compatibility depends on the exact phone model, so call us before ordering or connecting an accessory if you are unsure which one you need.

Set up with a computer

  1. Connect the included USB cable from the base's PC port to your computer.
  2. On the front of the base, select the Computer icon.
  3. Open your computer's sound settings and choose the OfficeRunner II as both the input (microphone) and output (speaker) device.
  4. Open your calling application and select the OfficeRunner II as its microphone and speaker there too.
  5. Turn on the headset and make a test call or test recording.

Switch between your phone and computer

Tap the Telephone or Computer icon on the front of the base before starting a call. A white light shows the selected device. When the headset is turned on and connected, that device's light changes to blue.

Check your setup

  • You can hear the other person clearly.
  • The other person can hear you clearly.
  • The red mute light is off.
  • The correct Telephone or Computer mode is selected.
  • All cords are fully seated at both ends.

If your OfficeRunner II does not work after these steps, call a Headset Advisor at 1-800-432-3738. Have the make and model of your desk phone or the name of your computer calling application ready so we can help you finish the setup.
